Organizational promotions announced by The Davey Tree Expert Company

The following promotions were announced by Karl Warnke, chairman, president and CEO, as part of the ongoing Davey management succession plan.

 

Eastern Utility Services

Mark Vaughn was promoted to vice president and general manager, eastern utility services.  Vaughn is a 38-year Davey employee who has served in a variety of positions from trimmer to vice president.  Prior to his promotion, Vaughn’s most recent position was vice president, eastern utility services.

Vaughn holds a bachelor of business administration degree from LaSalle University and is a graduate of The Davey Institute of Tree Sciences.  He is a charter member of the Davey President’s Council and is a past recipient of a Davey Outstanding Manager Award.

 

Davey ResourceGroup

Brent Repenning has been promoted to vice president and general manager of the Davey Resource Group.  Repenning is a 16-year Davey employee who joined the company as an intern and was promoted to positions of increased responsibility.  Prior to his promotion, Repenning’s most recent position was vice president, eastern operations, Davey Resource Group.

Repenning holds the bachelor of science degree in forestry from The Ohio State University. He received a Davey Outstanding Manager award in 2007.

Ken Joehlin has been named to the position of vice president of business development for Davey Resource Group.

 

Joehlin is a 14-year Davey employee with 28 years’ experience in the industry.  Prior to his promotion, Joehlin’s most recent position was manager of business development for Davey Resource Group.

Joehlin holds both the bachelor and master of science degrees in forestry science from The Ohio State University. He is a past member of the Davey President’s Council and a recipient of a Best of Davey Leadership Award.

 

Davey Tree Surgery Company

Larry Abernathy has been promoted to senior vice president of the Davey Tree Surgery Company.  A 41-year Davey employee, Abernathy has served in a variety of positions from brushing foreman to vice president. 

Abernathy holds an associate’s degree in business administration from Mira Costa College in California and is a DITS graduate.  He is a charter member of the Davey President’s Council, a certified arborist, utility specialist, and a recipient of the ISA Western Chapter Award of Achievement.   He is a past member of the UAA executive board and current chairperson of the UAA editorial committee.

Larry Evans was promoted to vice president, operations of the Davey Tree Surgery Company.  A 30- year  Davey employee, Evans has served in a variety of positions from groundman to vice president.  His new responsibilities include all Surgery operations. 

Evans is a certified arborist and utility specialist.  He is a former member of the Davey President’s Council and is a past recipient of a Davey Outstanding Manager Award and  Supervisor of the Year Award.

Emil Stahli has been appointed to the position of vice president, finance of the Davey Tree Surgery Company.  Stahli is a 32-year Davey employee and most recently served as corporate controller for the Surgery Company.   Prior to his transfer to California, he served in many key financial roles in the Kent corporate office.

Stahli holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting from The University of Akron. 

 

Corporate

 

Thea Sears was promoted to assistant controller for The Davey Tree Expert Company and was also named an officer of the company.

 

Sears is a 17-year Davey employee. Prior to her promotion, Sears’ most recent position was manager, financial accounting.

 

Sears earned a bachelor of science degree in industrial management from the University of Akron and earned certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).  She is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants, the American Institute of CPAs, the Ohio Society of CPAs and is a former member of the Davey President’s Council.

Joseph Tommasi has been named corporate director of safety. 

Tommasi is a 16-year Davey employee with 37 years in the industry.  Prior to his promotion, Tommasi’s most recent positon  was manager, safety and loss prevention.

Tommasi is a certified arborist and a certified tree care safety professional.  He has served as both vice chair and chairman of the TCIA Safety Committee, ISA Safety Committee and as a representative to ANSI Z133 Committee and chair of the electric hazards subgroup.

Tommasi holds an associate’s degree in business from Elizabeth Seton College.
